작품 상세 설명

Artificial intelligence in the work learns text data containing human’s food recipe, and creates new recipes based on that. Unhappy Circuit displays a live performance of making real food out of a recipe created by artificial intelligence. At the same time, the process in which artificial intelligence learns is conveyed to the audience through audio vidualization. In particular, artificial intelligence metaphorically expresses human’s carnivorous culture through new meat food made by artificial intelligence. Unhappy Circuit encompasses digital media experiment art, science and engineering areas with the center of computer algorithm music. In addition, by combining and expanding boundaries of various media and technologies, it agonizes over new human beings of the coming future.

작가 약력

Introduction: Exploring the Cosmic Canvas of Jongkuk Won

Seoul-based artist unhappy circuit, known professionally as jongkuk won, is a singular voice in contemporary art—a figure who seamlessly blends artistic vision with scientific inquiry to grapple with fundamental questions about human consciousness and our place within the vast expanse of the universe. Born in 1989, Won’s creative journey began not merely with brushes and pigments but with an immersion into disciplines ranging from linguistics and anthropology to ecology and futurology—a deliberate effort to transcend conventional artistic boundaries and forge connections between seemingly disparate fields. This multidisciplinary approach informs his distinctive style, characterized by bold colors, geometric forms, and a palpable preoccupation with exploring the intersection of human experience and cosmological concepts.

Early Influences & Artistic Formation

Won’s formative years were marked by an early fascination with both art history and computational science—a pairing that would prove pivotal in shaping his artistic sensibilities. Studying Korean art traditions alongside delving into algorithms and data visualization instilled within him a deep appreciation for visual storytelling combined with analytical rigor. This dual influence is evident throughout his oeuvre, where intricate patterns and symbolic representations coexist with sophisticated digital techniques, reflecting a desire to communicate complex ideas through accessible aesthetic frameworks. Notably, collaborations with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox have further broadened Won's artistic horizons, exposing him to diverse musical styles and fostering experimentation within performance art.

Style & Technique: Synthesizing Art & Science

At the core of unhappy circuit’s artistic practice lies a commitment to synthesizing disparate methodologies—a deliberate rejection of stylistic dogma in favor of conceptual exploration. He employs techniques rooted in both traditional painting and digital media, utilizing color palettes inspired by astronomical observations alongside geometric constructions that echo fractal patterns found in natural phenomena. This fusion isn't simply decorative; it serves as a conduit for conveying ideas about interconnectedness and complexity—mirroring the artist’s belief that understanding the universe requires embracing multiple perspectives. His works often incorporate elements of glitch art, subtly disrupting visual harmony to provoke contemplation on information overload and the limitations of human perception.

Notable Exhibitions & Recognition

Won's artistic endeavors have garnered considerable acclaim within Korea’s vibrant contemporary art scene. He has participated in exhibitions hosted by prestigious institutions such as Hyundai Motor Group’s ZER01NE, Asia Culture Center, Arts Council Korea, Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, C-LAB (Taiwan), BeFantastic (India), and ARCOLABS (Indonesia)—demonstrating a commitment to engaging with audiences both domestically and internationally. His pieces have been featured in publications like Artsy, VRALLART, and Fact Magazine, solidifying his position as a rising talent within the global art community. Furthermore, collaborations with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox underscore his willingness to push creative boundaries and explore unconventional artistic partnerships.

Legacy & Conceptual Significance

Unhappy circuit's work transcends mere visual representation; it represents an ambitious attempt to articulate the profound relationship between humanity and cosmology—a quest for understanding that speaks to anxieties about our role in a universe governed by forces beyond human comprehension. By combining artistic expression with scientific contemplation, Won encourages viewers to reconsider assumptions about reality and consciousness, prompting dialogue on themes of interconnectedness, information processing, and the potential for expanding human perception. His distinctive style serves as a testament to the power of multidisciplinary creativity—a reminder that true innovation arises from embracing diverse intellectual traditions and venturing into uncharted artistic territories.
