The Imagination is fundamental for the creative spirit. By allowing ourselves to be seized by the wings of imagination, we transcend, uproot ourselves and fly to upper levels. Mother Nature represented by the tree of life which in the Hebraic-Christian mythology is seen as a symbol of Wisdom, in a perfect analogy with the Woman Wisdom, positive symbols of creation.……………………………………………Ah! To fly high and believe with heart and soul,That life is just a chimera where it fits the dream and the reason!\t\t\t\t\t \t(Extract of the poem Fantasy by Ester de Sousa e Sá)Ester de Sousa e Sá was born in Portugal and in 1952 she emigrated with her parents to Africa, living there for 44 years, where she grew up and was educated in a English colony. After her marriage, she moved to Mozambique and in 1975 she moved to South Africa with her family.Despite having pursued a banking career, her passion for the arts led her to start oil painting in the late 1960’s, developing her own technique.In 1996, she returned to Portugal and since then has dedicated herself entirely to the arts, beside painting, she has done sculpture and more recently she is been experimenting creative writing, with four books already published.In her artworks she prefers to exalt the beauty that exists in life and she dedicates herself to art with passion and excitement. She describes herself has a naturalist that, in her realist/impressionist style, paints everything that touches her artistic sensibility, giving color to the white canvas. Her works are born from the pleasure and passion she has for art, leading her to paint what she sees, feeling in the soul what she paints.Over the years, she has participated in several art exhibitions, both individual and collective.

Biography | Ester de Sousa e Sá

Ester de Sousa e Sá (Lisbon, April 18, 1921 – October 6, 1988) was one of the most complex and active figures of his time, a prolific multidisciplinary artist and an avid producer of synergies between generations of artists from both the first and the second half of the 20th century. Defending an experimental and free artistic expression, he dedicated himself to the study, promotion and practice of the arts, as well as to curatorship, critique and essay writing, photography, cinema and theater. During the 1960s he got in touch with the Fluxus movement and with the European neo-avantgarde, becoming friends with Robert Filliou and Wolf Vostell. This contact was significant to his recast of art as an experimental and participatory “open work”, of which are examples the theatrical exercise * Nós Não Estamos Algures *(1969), the expanded film *(1969-1972) and the mixed media*. He embraced a radical vision of artistic creation, rejecting traditional forms and embracing spontaneity and chance.

His formative years were marked by an early exposure to literature and philosophy, fostering his intellectual curiosity and shaping his worldview.
He pursued his studies at Universidade Nova Lisboa, where he earned a doctorate in Philosophy

His artistic career began in the 1950s with explorations of sculpture and ceramics, reflecting his fascination for natural forms and textures. He experimented with diverse materials and techniques, constantly pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. His sculptural works often incorporate organic elements—stones, clay, wood—creating evocative pieces that convey a sense of stillness and contemplation.

His most notable achievements include the creation of *Almada, Um Nome de Guerra*, a collaborative theatrical project exploring themes of identity and memory
He was awarded twice at Cannes Film Festival for his film * Dom Roberto*

From 1962 to 1987 he worked as curator and director of exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, promoting artistic innovation and fostering dialogue between artists from different cultures. He championed the cause of experimental cinema and supported young filmmakers eager to explore new creative horizons. His contribution to Portuguese art history is undeniable, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire artists today.

He published extensively in magazines and newspapers since the 1940s, shaping artistic discourse and advocating for freedom of expression
